Still life with camellias

Oil on canvas, unsigned, pale camellias in a blue and white porcelain bowl on a dark table. American, early twentieth century.

Brought in unframed and unattributed, in poor condition, by a family who assumed it worthless. Cleaned and lined before the sale. It tripled its estimate against three telephone bidders.

Condition: cleaned and relined prior to sale. Minor retouching to the lower left quadrant. Now in a sympathetic period frame.
