Provenance

From the estate of a Beaufort collector who bought directly from the printmaker in the 1930s.

Colour woodblock print on laid paper, signed in pencil to the lower margin, numbered from a small edition. Southern regionalist school, circa 1935.

The surprise of the sale. Estimated conservatively on the basis of prior results, it drew sustained competition from two institutional bidders and a private collector, and closed at nearly four times the high estimate.

Condition: colours fresh and unfaded, full margins, no light staining. Never framed.
