Provenance

Consigned by the family of the original purchaser, who acquired it from a Charleston gallery in 1941.

Watercolour on paper, signed lower right, the tidal creek rendered in loose washes of grey and ochre beneath a high sky. American, circa 1930.

Watercolour is the medium in which the Lowcountry painters did their best work, and the market has finally caught up with that fact. A confident sheet with good provenance and no condition issues.

Condition: colours strong, no fading or foxing. Original mount and frame. Glazed with modern conservation glass.
