An annual sale devoted to the printed word, from incunabula through modern first editions, with a strong showing of Southern regional imprints and natural history plates.
The centrepiece is a complete set of Catesby's Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands in contemporary hand colouring, consigned from a private library where it has remained since 1911. Modern literature is led by a presentation copy of Faulkner inscribed to his editor.
Theodore Finch has prepared full collations for every lot above one thousand dollars. Interested bidders are encouraged to arrange a viewing appointment, as many of these books reward examination in person.
What to know before you bid
Viewing and preview
Every lot may be inspected in person before the sale. Preview runs the three days prior, from 10am to 5pm, and by appointment outside those hours. Condition reports are available on request for any lot.
How bidding works
Bidding takes place through our online auction platform. Register there ahead of the sale, browse the full catalogue, and place bids live or leave an absentee bid in advance. A buyer's premium applies to the final hammer price. Full terms are listed on the platform.
Placing your bid
Registration is quick and free, and opens once the catalogue is published. Approved bidders can take part the moment the sale goes live.
