The Hartwell family arrived in Charleston in 1847 and never left. What they gathered over the following century and a half now comes to auction in its entirety, uncatalogued until this spring and untouched by the market.
The sale opens with the drawing room contents, including a pair of Charleston made mahogany card tables and an important Thomas Sully portrait descended directly through the family. The jewelry offering is led by an Edwardian diamond rivière and a collection of Georgian mourning rings assembled by Margaret Hartwell in the 1920s.
Viewing runs the three days prior to the sale, by appointment and open to the public on the final afternoon. Condition reports are available on request for every lot.
